So Far, So Good: My Summer Update + Teacher Tools You May Like

Updated: Jun 28

Summer So Far…

Lately, I’ve been fully embracing the slow mornings, random store runs, and finally checking off those lingering to-dos I usually put off during the school year—like reading an actual book and remembering what I just read (no more rereading the same page 10 times!). I totally get how the students feel now.

I’ve been pouring energy into this creative project by researching the best deals to share with you. It’s been a mix of excitement and eye strain, but I'm genuinely loving this little venture I've started.

And yes, I’ve even allowed myself to rest. Shocking, I know! Not for too long, of course, but sometimes the best back-to-school prep is getting lost in a good psychological thriller.

I know, I know… it might not be everyone's idea of rest, but I love diving into stories about seemingly perfect lives that unravel thanks to a stalker or something even darker. Maybe that’s why I’m so hooked on Dateline, 48 Hours, and true-crime documentaries. But hey, that’s a whole other rabbit hole we could go down!

Helpful Tools for Teachers This Summer

If you’re like me, you might not be able to completely “turn off” your teacher brain. So here are a few things I’ve found helpful and inspiring during this break:

1. Brain Dump Journal (Don't worry, not one for your deepest, darkest secrets!) Even if you’re not mapping out every detail of your school year yet, some of the best ideas hit me at the most random times, like 2:00am. Slap a journal by the bed and when you think of something, jot it down. It serves as a brain dump of my random ideas. Lately, I’ve been using one, gifted to me by a student before my medical leave. It's full of lesson ideas, lesson themes, game ideas, and the occasional reminder to pick up cookies and cream ice cream from the store because we are completely out.

2. Canva (Free for Educators!) I know this may seem obvious but Canva literally has it all and they are constantly adding new apps and features. It's perfect for designing classroom decor, syllabi templates, social media graphics, or templates for your new blog. Wink Wink. Lately, I've been using it to prep some fun visuals and blog designs (again probably more for me). I've realized that I need images to keep my attention, much like preschoolers and picture books. Honestly, if emails were just images, I’d remember so much more. Meetings? Just send me a graphic. Doctor’s appointment? Please, a visual aid!

3. Amazon Finds for Back-to-School Prep I’m slowly gathering some teacher must-haves while they’re still in stock. If you know me, you know I have a thing for shoes; especially heels (well...more like wedges). I'm all about the added height AND balance. Let's just say grace isn't exactly my strong suit, so the chunkier the heel, the better.

With fall and winter creeping up, now's the perfect time to snag boots while they are on sale. I'm searching for comfortable yet super cute shoes for this coming year because who has too many shoes? (Shh..don't tell my husband.).

And don't forget about Amazon Prime Day is July 8-11, and I hope I can find a super deal on all the necessities like cute clothes and shoes.😀

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re spending your summer traveling, teaching summer school, or simply catching your breath, don’t forget that rest is productive. And if you do feel that little spark to plan or create, lean into it but only if it brings you joy.

I’ll be sharing more teacher tips, Amazon finds, and classroom inspo so stay tuned, and let me know how your summer’s going too! Keep me in the loop and message me about how your summer is going!
